This project included the extension of the largest UK rail head distribution facility for the handling and storage of steel coil on behalf of Round Oak Rail and Corus at their site in Brierley Hill, Dudley. The work included a full redevelopment of the existing site infrastructure including rail, buildings, amenity works, and plant and machinery to enable steel throughput to increase from 850,000 tonnes a year to 1,250,000 tonnes which is distributed by rail and road.

The site is operated on a 22 hr a day basis so project planning and phasing was essential to maintain normal operations during the construction period. This was managed on a very technically challenging site with only 2 days of planned operation lost to Corus during the course of the project.

Mirus acted in the capacity of Construction Project Managers and Cost Consultants on the project, co-ordinating the tight planning and building sequencing to deliver the operation needs of the stakeholders.
